On September 15, 2022, the awardees of the fourth " THE XPLORER PRIZE " was officially announced, and Rujin Huang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences won the award.
THE XPLORER PRIZE is a non-governmental merit-based award. With initial funding provided by the Tencent Foundation, the Award is one of the most generous talent funding programs for young scientists in China. Each year, up to 50 young scientists are selected from the fields of basic sciences and frontier technologies, with each receiving a no-strings-attached grant totaling RMB 3 million over a five-year period. THE XPLORER PRIZE was initiated in 2018 by Pony MA, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tencent and Founder of the Tencent Foundation, alongside 14 renowned scientists including Chen Ning YANG, RAO Yi, SHI Yigong, PAN Jianwei and XIE Xiaoliang, etc. Until 2022, THE XPLORER PRIZE has funded 200 promising young scientists.
Rujin Huang, a professor of the Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the leading talent of the National High level Talent Program, and the Youth Program of the National Overseas High level Talent Program. He has won the Special Award of the Chinese Youth Science and Technology Award, the Young Scientist Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Outstanding Award of the Final Evaluation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Talent Plan, the Asian Young Aerosol Scientific Award, the Schmauss Award, etc. He is mainly engaged in the research of atmospheric aerosol chemistry and physics, sea-air interactions, environmental health and climate effects and has published more than 200 SCI papers in Nature, Nature Geoscience, Nature Sustainability, Nature Communications, PNAS, ES&T, GRL and other international journals.
