Professor Ru-Jin Huang was elected to Academia Europaea in 2022. He joined the Earth and Cosmic Sciences Section and is also affiliated with the Chemical Sciences Section. Professor Huang was among 470 eminent international scholars elected that year following a rigorous peer-review process.

Established in 1988, Academia Europaea is the Pan-European Academy of Humanities, Letters and Sciences. It brings together distinguished scholars from the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences, medicine, mathematics, engineering, and technology. Membership is by invitation and is granted following nomination, academic peer review, and approval by the Board of Trustees.
