Professor Ru-Jin Huang was awarded a Continuing Grant of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). The grant runs from May 2025 through December 2029.
The continuing-grant mechanism provides a second five-year period of support to selected projects following completion of their initial funding term. Eligible projects undergo a tiered completion evaluation, and no more than 20% are selected for continuing support. In 2025, 62 projects nationwide received continuing grants. Within the NSFC Department of Earth Sciences, only 7 projects were selected, and Professor Huang’s project was one of them.
Professor Huang first received funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2019. That year, the NSFC Department of Earth Sciences received 327 applications and funded 32 projects, corresponding to a funding rate of 9.79%.
